ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.1 released: full-featured PDF Editor, Slide Master, improved RTL, enhanced collaboration in sheets, and more
The latest version of our online editors is already available with more than 30 new features and 432 bug fixes across the suite. Read on to discover all the updates.
Full-featured PDF Editor
PDF is an extremely popular file format in business workflow. We suppose you often need to open various brochures in PDF, fill in agreements and contracts from partners and colleagues, etc.
Keeping this in mind, we present the upgraded version of our native PDF Editor. Along with viewing and annotating, it now also supports:
- Text editing
Where to find: Home tab -> Edit Text
- Working with pages (adding, rotating, deleting)
Where to find: Home tab -> Insert Page / Rotate page / Delete Page
- Inserting and adjusting of various objects such as tables, shapes, text boxes, images, TextArt, hyperlinks, equations, etc.

Besides, we enhanced the annotating mode. A mini-toolbar now opens for more convenient and straightforward work with annotations. You are able to add text comments and callouts via a toolbar, as well as remove comments via the context menu.
By switching between the modes, you can either edit a PDF file or view and annotate it.

PDF forms
With this release, we completely switched to PDF forms. To create a form, you don’t need to use other formats. This means that we say goodbye to our DOCXF format which was previously used for building form templates.
All this – to make the process easier for you. So, in version 8.1, you are able to create complex forms and fill them out online, completely in PDF, in the web and desktop apps.
What’s new in the document editor
Page color. Apply the required background color for your pages. In case you open a document created in another office suite and it has any page color set, ONLYOFFICE document editor will also recognize and display it in the right way.

Page numbering format. Easily customize the format for the numbering in your documents to make it look as you need.
Where to find: Header and footer settings -> Number format
Seamless switching between modes. Switch between the Editing, Reviewing or Viewing modes with one click. What’s important, this works individually for each user. So, you won’t affect or disturb other co-authors.

What’s new in spreadsheets
More security. Restrict viewing of cells in the protected range to protect important data.
Where to find: Protection -> Protect Range
Collaboration in spreadsheets becomes more comfortable thanks to highlighting the changed cells in the Version History.

Besides, in spreadsheets we added:
- GETPIVOTDATA and IMPORTRANGE functions;
- tips for inserting custom functions;
- ability to copy/move sheets between workbooks within one browser.
What’s new in presentations
Slide Master. Quickly apply the same layout across multiple slides.

Animation pane. Display animation effects applied to your slides on the timeline.

Useful improvements in all editors
Shadow settings for shapes. Apply a shadow to the inserted shapes and adjust its properties, including transparency, size, angle, and distance.

Extended set of color schemes. Give your files an individual look by choosing among an extended number of available color schemes.

RTL & new localization options
We are constantly improving localization of ONLYOFFICE Docs to make our suite accessible to all users, all over the world.
Refining RTL support is one of the most important directions for us. With with release, among enhancements for RTL are:
- improved word order;
- correct alignment for different text types.
Besides, in version 8.1, you will find:
- support for multiple new languages in the spreadsheet editor, including Bengali and Sinhala;
- Serbian – Cyrillic localization for the editors (sr-Cyrl-RS).

Usability improvements
From now on, you can adjust the presence of functional buttons Save, Print, Undo and Redo in the header.
Where to find: Customize Quick Access
For more comfortable user experience, we also redesigned and updated some interface elements:
- Copy style, Clear style, Select all, and Replace buttons changed their position on the toolbar (Home tab);
- paragraph formatting settings are accessible from the Layout tab and Paragraph line spacing button;
- Color scheme button moved to the Layout tab;
- Mail merge button moved to the Collaboration tab;
- extended settings in the right-slide panel in the presentation editor.
Extended template library
Save your time and use free templates in various languages from our library. Along with forms, it now also contains templates for text documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
