Desktop Editors’ API is available
We are happy to introduce API for the desktop editors, an application for working with documents, spreadsheets, and presentations on Linux, Windows, and macOS.
Connecting desktop as a client
By default, ONLYOFFICE Desktop can be connected to our cloud/self-hosted solutions, Nextcloud, ownCloud, and Seafile.
With the general availability of API, the app can be used as a client for document editing with any sync&share solution. You will be able to access documents stored in there as well as edit and collaborate on them in real-time from your desktop.
Encrypted collaboration
The API also brings the ability to implement end-to-end encryption for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Your document data will be encrypted and decrypted on the client using ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors. The editing and real-time co-editing processes will be encrypted as well.
Debugging mode and plugins
The publicly available API supplies the developers with tools to run ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors in the debugging mode and create plugins to add the missing functionality or implement integration with the services you use (e.g. third-party spellchecker, translators, bibliographies).
