ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v8.1: full-featured PDF editor, Slide Master, improved RTL, new localization options and more
After the release of ONLYOFFICE Docs v8.1, it’s time to bring to light the newest version of the ONLYOFFICE desktop app for Linux, Windows and macOS. Traditionally, it comes with the most important features of the online suite, such as a full-featured PDF editor, Slide Master in presentations, improved RTL support, new localization options and more. Edit PDF files with ease
Both online and desktop versions of the ONLYOFFICE suite are now equipped with a full-featured PDF editor making it possible to create, annotate and edit PDF files in different ways. Starting from version 8.1, ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor allows you to do the following operations:
- Edit text;
- Add, rotate and delete pages;
- Insert and modify various objects, like tables, shapes, text boxes, images, TextArt, hyperlinks, equations, etc.;
- Add text comments and callouts;
- Switch between the Editing and Viewing modes.
Another important improvement brought by ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor is that you no longer need other formats to create and edit fillable forms. With version 8.1, you simply create a PDF template, add interactive fields, adjust their properties and save your form as a fillable PDF file. Press F to pay respects to our old DOCXF format, previously used to create form templates.
Quickly modify your slides with the Slide Master option
In version 8.1, the ONLYOFFICE presentation editor brings the Slide Master feature which allows you to quickly apply the same layout across multiple slides. In other words, making a single adjustment to the slide master will change all the other slides in your presentation, which will save a lot of time and effort.

Other improvements in the presentation editor include an animation pane on the Animation tab which displays all the applied effects on the timeline and a more user-friendly right-slide panel with extended settings.
Switch between the Editing, Reviewing and Viewing modes in your docs
Starting from version 8.1, you can easily opt for the desired mode depending on your needs. If you want to make edits to your document, just activate the Editing mode. If you want to review something without making any changes, the Reviewing mode is an ideal choice. The Viewing mode works best if you have no plans to edit or review your document.

Enjoy better RTL support and new localization options
RTL support was initially introduced by the previous version of the ONLYOFFICE suite, and version 8.1 makes it better due to the following:
- improved word order;
- correct alignment for different text types.
What’s more, in version 8.1, you will find the Serbian (Cyrillic and Latin) localization option for the whole suite and new languages in the spreadsheet editor, including Bengali and Sinhala.

Hide the Connect to cloud section
If you want to work with office files locally without connecting to cloud-based services, the updated desktop app allows you to hide the Connect to cloud section. To do so, you just need to launch the app with the –lock-portals parameter. To bring this section back, launch ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors with the –unlock-portals parameter.

Play video and audio files in your presentations
In version 8.1, the ONLYOFFICE presentation editor is equipped with a new media player, which opens as a separate panel. This way you can smoothly play audio and video files in your presentations.
Version 8.1: what else is new
When using ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v8.1, you can also do the following:
- Set the required page color and customize the numbering format in your documents;
- Use the GETPIVOTDATA and IMPORTRANGE functions in your spreadsheets;
- Apply shadows to inserted shapes and adjust their properties;
- Make use of an extended set of color schemes;
- Hide or show the Save, Print, Undo and Redo buttons in the editor header and more.
