ONLYOFFICE Assign Submission plugin v3.0 for Moodle: file uploads, editable templates, and improved PDF form filling
The ONLYOFFICE Assign Submission plugin for Moodle comes in version 3.0. It brings exciting new features including the ability to upload files from devices, editable templates for DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX files, and improved PDF form handling. Read this article to learn more.
Uploading files from devices
In addition to creating documents within Moodle, teachers and students can now upload files directly from their devices while creating and completing their assignments.
To upload the file from your device, navigate to the Submission settings -> Submission types -> Plus icon -> Upload a file -> Choose File. Add the file from your device, enter the Name and Author, and set the license type. Click Upload this file.
Alternatively, you can drag and drop the file in the submission field.
DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX template editing
The previous version 2.0 of the plugin introduced the possibility for teachers to set up assignment templates in DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX formats that students can directly edit and submit the final version. Teachers could either choose their file or use a blank document.
Now, teachers can utilize pre-installed templates for each file type and adjust them to suit the needs of specific assignments.
To add a template, go to the Settings -> Submission types section and choose Custom in the File template drop-down list.
PDF form creation for students
Version 3.0 also allows students to create PDF forms. Depending on the template type set by the teacher — Empty or Custom — students can either fill out predefined fields or edit the entire PDF form.
When teachers select the Empty template type, a blank PDF file is provided to the student. Students can freely edit the entire file, add fillable fields like text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons, and drop-down lists, and customize field settings to meet their specific needs.
Teachers can also pre-define the content of the PDF file using a Custom template. In this case, students can only fill out specific predefined fields, maintaining the structure and content of the original file. This setup is ideal for forms and structured assignments where students input data without altering the template itself.
Other improvements
- forbid PDF file editing by users lacking the required capabilities;
- trim overlong file names.
