Linux Day 2024: celebrate its 33rd anniversary with ONLYOFFICE
33 years ago, a simple operating system was publicly announced by Linus Benedict Torvalds. This OS known as Linux made a huge impact on the open-source community and is used by millions of people all over the world. Let’s pay respect to Linux and find out what ONLYOFFICE products you can run under this operating system today.
Linux Day: August 25th or September 17th?
Linux, the most popular and widely used open-source operating system, appeared in 1991 as a personal project of Linus Benedict Torvalds, a 21-year-old student from the University of Helsinki, Finland. On August 25th, he publicly announced the development of his own simple OS and uploaded Linux kernel 0.0.1 to the Internet on September 17th. That’s why Linux Day is celebrated twice, on August 25th and September 17th.
No matter when you decide to celebrate Linux Day, its impact on computing and the open-source community is undeniable. Nowadays, thousands of companies and software developers from all over the world use Linux due to its flexibility and security features. Millions of Android devices are Linux-based, and more and more PC users are switching to this OS for privacy reasons every day.
Taking this occasion, the ONLYOFFICE team says “Happy Birthday, Linux!”
