Q&A session: all you need to know about ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.3

ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.3 is now available. In this article, you can find the answers to all the questions about the latest version and beyond we got from you in regard to the release. To make things easier, we divided the questions into several categories.

General questions

Questions: What new features in the most recent release would make the upgrade most worthwhile? Does ONLYOFFICE 8.3 bring more performances improvements?

Answer: For sure, ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.3 brings lots of improvements. If talking about specific features, it’s enhanced format and RTL support, PDF stamps and multi-select for PDF pages, Undo action for real-time collaboration for PDFs and sheets, ability to draw during slideshow, Merge shapes, and more.

All the released features aren’t just technical upgrades — they’re designed to save you time and amplify your productivity.

Question: Is there any tutorial for setting up our Home Server?

Answer: To install ONLYOFFICE Docs Home Server and activate the license, follow the tutorial from our Help Center. You can select the needed tutorial depending on what OS and installation type you use (Docker/Linux/Windows).

Question: Is there SaaS?

Answer: Yes, you can use ONLYOFFICE Docs Cloud which doesn’t require downloading and installation – register here.

Besides, you can opt for ONLYOFFICE DocSpace Cloud which comes with rooms for document collaboration and online editors already integrated – create a free account.

Question: IMAP and mail integration?

Answer: If you need a mail service, try self-hosted ONLYOFFICE Workspace which supports IMAP as mentioned in the question.

Question: Which citation managers work in conjunction with ONLYOFFICE?

Answer: To create bibliographies and insert citations, make use of the Zotero and Mendeley plugins. You can easily install them via the Plugin Manager right in the editors.

Question: When the ONLYOFFICE app version 8.3 will come? I am referring to the ONLYOFFICE for Arch Linux.

Answer: If we speak about ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors for Arch Linux – version 8.3 is already available with all the features from the online version and several additional enhancements. Please download it from the official website.

Question: Is this available on Windows too?

Answer: Sure thing! You can use ONLYOFFICE cloud solutions in any browser, regardless of your OS. If we speak about the desktop app – you can use it on your Windows OS. If you need self-hosted editors, there is an option to deploy it on your Windows Server.

AI implementation

Question: When will DeepSeek be included in ONLYOFFICE?

Answer: You can already use DeepSeek in ONLYOFFICE – check all the details in this blog post. And even more is coming soon! Don’t miss the upcoming AI plugin update.

Question: Will the AI plugin be updated to allow for a drop-down selection of LocalAI rather than having to type it in? This would simplify the setup and use of private AI platforms (Open WebUI, Ollama, etc). Or perhaps the Settings modal could include a link to more detailed instructions.

Answer: Thanks for your suggestion! We’ll add this to our roadmap list. Stay tuned for the updates!

PDF editor

Question: Will you introduce PDF censorship tools to hide sensitive information before sharing?

Answer: Yes, we are planning to add PDF censorship tools in one of the next updates.

Question: Will this update have better PDF OCR, as paragraph styling is lost most of the time?

Answer: We have improved text recognition, but there is still room for improvement for sure.

Question: Is it possible to e-sign PDFs with your solution?

Answer: At the moment, digital signatures are available in ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors for DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX files. We are actively working on implementing the ability to e-sign PDFs as well, and are planning to add this feature in one of the upcoming releases.

RTL support

Question: Does the new feature include the RTL paragraph option?

Answer: Among RTL improvements in version 8.3, there is an option to change the paragraph direction (LTR ⇌ RTL) in text documents. You can do so via the Home tab or Paragraph advanced settings.

Question: How ready is 8.3 for complete RTL support?

Answer: That’s a rather tricky question. Refining RTL support is one of the most important directions for us. With this release, we added the ability to change the default sheet direction as well as paragraph direction in text documents (LTR ⇌ RTL), RTL interface support for the embedded viewer, and fixed display of non-printable characters for RTL paragraphs in text docs. You are welcome to submit any issues with RTL via forum. Your feedback is always much appreciated!

File formats

Question: I am very excited that it supports HWP format. And I hope it supports not only HWP document viewing but also HWP document conversion.

Answer: For now, you can open HWP files in ONLYOFFICE for viewing. If you need to edit such files, they will be automatically converted and saved to the OOXML format. We are also planning to add HWP to the online converter soon.

Question: Compatibility with MS Office?

Answer: Yes, ONLYOFFICE provides high compatibility with MS Office formats. Namely, DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX are native file formats in our editors. And with each new release, we are enhancing format compatibility for seamless working with office files.

Integrations

Question: I use ONLYOFFICE Docs integrated with Nextcloud and want to synchronize contact data of Nextcloud contacts and fields in forms, such as an invoice. Is it possible?

Answer: We are able to implement this from the technical standpoint. It’s quite a big task, so we have added it to our integrations roadmap.

Question: How can I connect alternative storages for collective file editing in ONLYOFFICE Docs Community? 

Answer: If we speak about ONLYOFFICE Docs Community, you can connect it to any DMS, content management service, etc. Find the full list of more than 40 available integrations on our official website.

Question: Both ONLYOFFICE and Nextcloud must be connected to the Internet via ports 80/443 in order to establish an SSL connection via “Let’s encrypt” that is accepted in all browsers. This is not possible directly at the same time, but requires the installation of a reverse proxy as a trick. It would be helpful if ONLYOFFICE (e.g. using Docker) could be configured in such a way that it can use the SSL certificates already created/renewed by Nextcloud and can be operated on a different port other than 443 to avoid conflicts.

Answer: We think something like this is possible. In the ONLYOFFICE Docs connection settings within Nextcloud, we provide a set of addresses. So, we’ll think over how to implement this request in a proper way.

Question: I have failed every time I tried to install ONLYOFFICE plugin on Redmine 6. Please provide a detailed new guide document or YouTube video for installing it …

Answer: Well, the ONLYOFFICE plugin supports Redmine 6. Please find the installation tutorials in the Help Center or API. If you are facing any issues, you are welcome to submit them here. By the way, we are currently working on the plugin update, so if the issue is connected with the Redmine 6 version, it will be fixed in any way.
