ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v8.3 released: new supported formats, PDF stamps, Merge Shapes, context menu for tabs and windows, and more

Following up the release of ONLYOFFICE Docs v8.3, it’s time to reveal the newest version of the desktop app for Windows, Linux and macOS. ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v8.3 comes equipped with the majority of the new features and improvements of the self-hosted suite. Discover what’s new in this article.

Open, view and edit Apple iWork and Hancom Office files

Like the online version, the updated desktop app offers better format compatibility allowing you to open and view files created in Apple iWork’s Pages, Keynote and Numbers. Another improvement is support for Hancom Office’s file formats, .hwp and .hwpx.

The above formats are supported for viewing but you can also edit them on your PC or laptop via conversion to OOXML, i.e. DOCX for text documents, XLSX for spreadsheets and PPTX for presentations.

Insert stamps and select multiple pages in your PDF files

In version 8.3, ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor has become more powerful offering a few useful improvements. One of them is the ability to insert stamps to make your PDFs look more professional and organized. When adding a stamp, you are allowed to choose from various options, such as Approved, Confidential, Draft, Completed and more.

Managing large PDFs is now easier due to the newly added multi-page selection tool. Using it, you can effortlessly select multiple pages at once to perform the required operation, whether it be deletion or rotation. You can either use the Ctrl key to remove or add pages to your selection, o hold the Shift key to select a range of pages.

Merge shapes in docs, sheets, slides and PDFs

Version 8.3 brings the Merge shapes feature to the desktop app, allowing you to create custom visual objects by combining shapes in different ways. These are the available options:

• Union;
• Combine;
• Fragment;
• Intersect;
• Subtract.

Manage your slides via the Design tab

In version 8.3, there is a separate tab for managing slides in your presentations. Using the Design tab, you can choose from available slide styles, change colour schemes and adjust the slide size parameter.

Enable automatic updates for external links in your sheets

When it comes to spreadsheets, the latest version of the desktop app lets you enable the automatic update for external links in your Excel files. This way you can make sure that important data are always up to date.

Another useful improvement is connected to the AutoFill option. Now you can fill days, weekdays, months and years in cells of your spreadsheet.

Enjoy better RTL support and new localization options

Starting from version 8.3, the ONLYOFFICE desktop app provides better RTL support allowing you to change the default sheet direction in spreadsheets and change the paragraph direction (LTR ⇌ RTL) in text documents.

When it comes to interface languages, there is good news for Albanian-speaking users. The desktop suite is now fully available in their native language. To switch to Albanian, you just need to select it as the interface language in the app settings.

Manage tabs and windows via the context menu

Now you can easily deal with tabs and windows in ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors using the context menu. If you right-click a septate window, you will see the available options, such as Close, Show in folder and Pin to tab.

For tabs, there are even more options, e.g. Create new, Move to start or Move to end. Using the context menu, you can quickly convert tabs into windows and vice versa.

Other improvements in version 8.3

Apart from the features mentioned above, ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors v8.3 also introduces plenty of other improvements. This is what you can do now:

• Use the Quick panel for editing annotations and adjust the Opacity parameter for annotations in PDFs;
• Rename the Slide Master and access the Show from Beginning option via the quick access toolbar in presentations;
• Draw on slides during a presentation show;
• Open and save calculated items in pivot tables;
• Show or hide the horizontal and vertical scroll bars in spreadsheets;
• Use the updated function wizard with descriptions of function arguments to get a hint;
• And much more.

Install the app with the online installer on Windows

If you run Windows on your PC or laptop, now you can install ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors with the online installer. After you execute the online-installer.exe file, you will be offered to install the app if you don’t have it yet, update the already installed application or repair it. Another option is the ability to uninstall the program.
