ONLYOFFICE connector for Nextcloud v9.5: how to collaborate on PDF files

The latest update of the ONLYOFFICE connector for Nextcloud introduces features to collaborate on PDF files using different modes and tools. Here’s a detailed on how to co-edit PDF files within Nextcloud.

Annotate PDF in Commenting mode

By default, a PDF file is opened in Commenting mode. So if you need to leave comments on a document without changing the document itself, you can start right there.

Select specific areas of text and add comments using the Comment button. All the comments in the document can be viewed and managed easily in the left-side panel, providing a convenient way to track ongoing discussions.

To ensure your feedback reaches the right person, you can use @mentions to tag your co-authors.

For a more illustrative approach, draw annotations directly on the PDF to clarify your points visually.

Collaborate in Editing mode

If you and your colleagues need to make changes directly to the PDF document, switch to Editing mode in the upper right corner of the interface.

There are two collaboration modes available in Editing mode: Fast and Strict. By default, Strict mode is enabled, which means your changes are not visible to others until you click Save. This allows for more control over when your edits are shared.

If you prefer real-time collaboration, you can switch to Fast mode, where changes are visible immediately to all users working on the document.

To switch between modes, go to the File menu, select Advanced Settings, and under the Collaboration section, check the necessary mode.

Communicate in real time

For efficient collaboration, use the built-in chat feature to discuss document updates without leaving the editor.

If you need more detailed conversations or face-to-face discussions, you can use video call plugins like Jitsi and Rainbow to have virtual meetings while working on the document.

Additionally, the Telegram plugin allows you to send direct messages to your contacts right from the editor, enabling quick communication without interrupting your workflow.

Along with PDF collaboration, the new version of the ONLYOFFICE connector for Nextcloud comes with the following updates:

• Finnish, Hebrew, Norwegian, and Slovenian empty file templates;
