New updates of ONLYOFFICE plugins for Moodle: PDF form creation and editing, Docs Cloud connection, certificate verification
Our ONLYOFFICE plugins for Moodle now feature updates such as PDF form creation and editing, improved server settings, connection to Docs Cloud, and others. These updates improve the functionality and usability of ONLYOFFICE plugins for Moodle, enhancing both administrative control and user experience.
PDF editing
Version 8.1 of ONLYOFFICE Docs introduced a PDF editor to allow users to interact with the universal and popular format. Thus, Moodle users can now also benefit from this tool. The PDF editor brings:
- Text editing
- Working with pages (adding, rotating, deleting)
- Inserting and adjusting tables, shapes, text boxes, images, TextArts, hyperlinks, equations, etc.
Where to find: PDF Editor
Please note that simultaneous sharing is not available for the moment. To share a file with others, you need to save a copy of your modified PDF file. Collaboration features in the PDF editor are coming soon.
PDF forms
ONLYOFFICE editors completely switched to PDF forms. This means that you don’t need to use DOCXF format to create a form template. The form creation is now available directly in PDF format, which makes the process shorter and easier.
You can add fields like text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons, drop-down lists, etc. To simplify the process of filling out forms, customize field settings to meet your specific needs, allowing you to set field size, format, allowed symbols, character limit, font, and required fields.
ONLYOFFICE Docs Cloud connection
Version v6.0 of the ONLYOFFICE Document plugin introduces the link to connect the Docs Cloud service. This feature allows you to use ONLYOFFICE Docs without having to install and maintain a server version, simplifying the setup and maintenance process.
You need to create an ONLYOFFICE Docs Cloud account and insert its URL in the admin settings in Moodle.
Where to find: Site administration -> Plugins -> ONLYOFFICE document -> Document Editing Service Address
Certificate verification setting
The plugin now supports the option to ignore self-signed certificates. This feature ensures that the Moodle plugin can establish a connection to the Document Server without requiring manual configuration changes. By checking the checkbox in the plugin settings, administrators can bypass certificate validation.
Where to find: Site administration -> Plugins -> ONLYOFFICE document -> Disable certificate verification
Advanced server settings for internal addresses
The new version of the plugin also allows you to configure advanced server settings for internal addresses. You can now set the ONLYOFFICE Docs address for internal requests from the Moodle server and the returning Moodle address for the internal requests from ONLYOFFICE Docs.
This feature allows you to control communication between servers better if your network configuration does not allow requests between servers via public addresses.
Where to find: Site administration -> Plugins -> ONLYOFFICE document -> ONLYOFFICE Docs address for internal requests from the server / Server address for internal requests from ONLYOFFICE Docs
Other improvements:
- Checking the URL address of the ‘Save as’ document;
- Fixed exit from full screen mode;
- Disabling page scrolling in the editor;
- Disabled chat for guests.

Creating and filling in PDF form in Assignments
ONLYOFFICE Assign Submission has also been updated to version 2.2.0. Along with the submission of text documents, spreadsheets, and presentations added in the previous version, it now facilitates work with fillable forms.
The updated plugin now supports the creation and completion of PDF forms. This allows teachers to submit forms in PDF format and receive the results in PDF format. Students can perform tasks that require filling out forms in a universal format from any device.
*The ONLYOFFICE Assign Submission plugin requires the main ONLYOFFICE plugin to be installed and integrated with your Moodle platform. Find more information in our Help Center.
