Final
The mightiest squads play to win the World Cup. This game kept fans of the both countries so much engaged and thrilled by every goal.
December 18
Argentina vs France (Lusail Iconic Stadium, Lusail) 4:3
1st half-time
From the very beginning of the game, Argentina was motivated to attack and therefore showed the high percentage of ball possession. During the 21st minute, Lionel Messi sends the penalty into the bottom right corner and makes the score 1:0.
The 36th minute saw Argentina dominating the game after the brilliant goal by Angel Di Maria – 2:0.
2nd half-time
However, France had reconsidered their tactics during the pause, found motivation, and suddenly changed the game in the second half-time. The star from Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappé, performs a penalty shot into the left bottom corner. Argentina’s goaltender Emiliano Martinez touches the ball, but can’t save this episode.
Then, Mbappé needed only one minute to score again – the shot was so powerful and unexpected for their rivals! France saves the game and the squads are ready to play extra time to find out the winner.
Extra time
It’s the 108th minute, the players are exhausted, most of substitutions are made. Still, Lionel Messi rushed back into play and slammed the ball into the net. The French defender kicks the ball out, but VAR confirms the goal.
The game is likely to finish, but it’s another foul in the Argentina’s penalty area. Mbappé scores a hat-trick! The fans are waiting for penalty kicks that would let them know the winner.
Penalty kicks
The first penalties were performed by the stars of this game Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé. They both scored – 1:1.
The second attempts were made by Kingsley Coman (France) and Paulo Dybala (Argentina). Coman’s kick wasn’t strong enough and therefore did not reach the net. Meanwhile, Dybala safely puts his squad forward – 1:2.
The third try was also unsuccessful for France – Aurelien Tchouameni failed to slot the ball into the corner. Leandro Paredes (Argentina) scores, and his team is performing penalty kicks flawlessly.
The last kicks by Randal Kolo Muani (France) and Gonzalo Montiel (Argentina) both reached the destination, but it was victory for Argentina and, surprisingly, the first World Cup for Lionel Messi.
